How did your career develop?
I’ve been at Goldman Sachs for 33 years, so it’s been a long road. I joined the firm as an Administrative Assistant working with a senior team member in the Mid-Atlantic region. I soaked up every bit about Goldman Sachs and Private Wealth Management. I eventually grew into my current role, where I help manage the strategy and operations of the Private Wealth Management business in the Mid-Atlantic region.
What’s the most important career advice you’ve received?
Goldman Sachs hires smart people and expects them to have opinions. You aren’t earning your paycheck if you don’t share them.
What is your role at Goldman Sachs, and how do you support clients?
I manage operations for the Philadelphia office. I help clients by hiring and cultivating the best talent in the business so that we can provide the best service.
How do you lead by example?
First, I never ask anyone to do something that I’m not willing to do myself. Second, I own the outcome of everything I touch.
What are some interesting themes and/or trends that you see in your area of expertise?
Our clients rely on us for holistic wealth management advice which goes far beyond investing. They are more and more looking to us for non-investment advice on topics from legacy planning to cybersecurity.
What is your favorite thing about your job?
Watching people I’ve hired succeed.
What advice would you give to your younger self?
Get uncomfortable - it’s how you grow.
How do you find motivation and inspiration?
I strive to purposefully start and end every day with joy in my heart.
What is one thing you make time for every week?
My family.
What is your favorite weekend activity?
I love getting on the golf course with my husband (and best friend).
What is your favorite book, movie, podcast or artwork?
Forrest Gump – it’s just so clever.
What is one app on your phone that you can’t live without and why?
Google Photos – I love the memories that pop up unexpectedly. They remind me of how blessed I am.
How do we provide more leadership opportunities to women in the workforce?
It is important for women to have advocates, not just mentors. We need to ensure all women have a strong advocate in their corner.
What are some of your professional and personal goals?
I want to become fluent in Spanish before I retire to Mexico one day, hopefully!
What suggestions would you give to women who are starting their careers?
Get comfortable promoting yourself. You are your best advocate. People will notice if you do a great job, but they can’t drive your advancement for you. It is important that all women own their career.
Where do you see yourself in 5-10 years?
I would like to live at the beach with my husband – reading and running with my dog near the edge of the water. I also plan to dedicate time to cooking for and feeding the hungry in partnership with a local community kitchen.
